Tsunamis:
A Tsunami is caused by a subduction earthquake (plate shifting below another
plate) The energy transferred and the water that is displaced forms a wave. As
the wave travels into water that is more shallow it increases in
amplitude.
Earthquakes:
Plates slide past each other, but when one piece of the plate gets stuck and he rest of
the plate keeps moving the release of pressure causes an earthquake. Damage
from earthquakes can be endless. Anywhere from cracks in the sidewalk to
destroying and bringing down buildings and can cause huge numbers of
casualties.
Typhoons:
Typhoons form over warm water in tropical areas near the equator. The water needs to be
above 79 degrees fahrenheit. The warm air evaporates and mixes with the cool air
to form a low pressure system. Typhoons usually have very strong sustained winds
and heavy rain. Typhoons spin clockwise in the southern hemisphere this is known
as the coriolis effect.
